Meet the BakHer: Chef Melanie Joy

Joyful BakHer, LLC- located in northern VA, is a 100% gluten free baking business owned and operated by Pastry Chef Melanie Joy Pierce. Her mission to provide fresh, beautiful and delicious gluten free baked goods was birthed out of, and currently driven by a personal need.

Chef Melanie was diagnosed with a severe gluten allergy in 2015, several years after completing pastry school. She quickly realized that many of the wheat-free options available in grocery stores lacked flavor and had a very undesirable texture and appearance.  This observation sparked a year-long journey of not only trying to navigate a new way of living, but also realizing that there was an opportunity to reach a community of people that were often overlooked.

Since that time, Chef Melanie has dedicated her life to creating a business that changes the negative stereotype around what gluten free food should look and taste like.

Although gluten free options in stores and restaurants have certainly increased, there are still many places of business that are lacking accommodations for those with food allergies. Joyful BakHer is here to meet that need with a wide variety of cakes, cupcakes, cookies, tarts and more, all freshly made to order and delivered to any desired location within the D.C. metro area.
